8th INTERNATIONAL ANTI-CORRUPTION CONFERENCE

Lima Declaration

The Lima Declaration, a landmark document agreed by the international audience with a standing ovation at the conclusion of the 8th International Anti-Corruptiion Conference, in Lima (Peru) in September 1997, represents the global communty's first attempt to articulate a broad strategy for the combat of corruption, at the international and national levels, in all sectors and with the participation and cooperation of all walks of life. The leading international anti-corruption event was attended by senior figures from international organisations and aid agencies, representatives of the three branches of government, anti-corruption agencies, ombudsmen, comptrollors, professional associations (law, accounting, auditing, engineering), journalists, academics, and representatives of the private sector and civil society. The Declaration is a blueprint for action and progress will be reviewed when the Conference reassembles in South Africa in 1999.
